I am a 100% disabled retired Army Officer who decided to lend a helping hand to homeless veterans by setting up a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization, Phoenix Rising Center for Veterans, Inc, for that purpose. I currently have 20 beds (two houses in Decatur, GA that’s providing housing, supportive services, and independent skill training) for female veterans and 10 beds in a house located in Marietta, GA providing the same services to male veterans. The houses in Decatur are on public transportation line whereas the one in Marietta, we provide van transport to and from the bus station. Our transportation schedule is running smoothly. At the request of the Homeless Veteran Program, East Point, GA. I prepared two additional houses to house four homeless male and ten homeless female veterans (renovated the houses, added sprinkler system, fire alarm system, wired in smoke detectors, furnished fully with two beds and two dressers per bedroom, put two refrigerators in the kitchen, furnished dining rooms to accommodate the number of veterans to be assigned to each house, provided washer and dryer, added a rear deck for smokers, remove all the carpets and installed hardwood floors and ceramic tile, etc.) One house located in Powder Springs, GA was prepared to house 10 veterans and a resident manager and one located in Sandy Springs, GA, four veterans and a resident manager. After all the work was completed and the houses were fully furnished and ready to be inspected by VA, I’m told that they do not need the houses. In fact, the house in Sandy Springs was inspected by the VA Safety Officer and it passed the inspection . Frankly, I have never had a house to fail an inspection. The houses have been sitting empty with the promise that they would be inspected soon. After seven months I pressed them for an answer and was told that the houses are not needed. Yet there is a large backlog of homeless veterans waiting for a place to call home. One reason given for not using the Powder Springs house is that it would present a transportation challenge. True, it would present an additional expense on Phoenix Rising because we would have to transport the veterans to and from the bus station but we already have experience in providing that service since we’re providing the same service for the veterans at the Marietta house and the schedule is running smoothly. I have mortgage payments to make on these two vacant houses and property maintenance expenses. I have put them on the market for rent but there is not much demand for a fully furnished five bedroom house with eleven beds and a two bedroom house with four beds. There are still homeless veterans that need a home like the ones that we provide. We are located in well maintained neighborhoods and our residents are assigned chores to keep their respective house clean, neat, and comfortable with emphasis on maintaining a home-like environment. I used my VA pension and disability income to get the houses ready to house homeless veterans and now I have to continue to use such income to make mortgage payments and to maintain these now vacant properties. I had Section 8 tenants in the houses that I released in preference for taking care of our veterans and now I’m left holding the bag so to speak. I am a single parent with six adopted children, the two youngest being two and five years old. I need my money to care for my family instead of paying for expenses that VA staff has caused me to incur. My two year old needs major surgery to straighten out his legs. His pediatrician recommended that the surgery be done when he turns two but he’s now almost three and I cannot have the surgery done until I am able to save the money needed for my co-pay. I need VA to reimburse me for the expenses that their staff has so callously caused. One of the VA staff has advised me to remove the furniture, place in storage and put the houses back on the Section 8 market. In that case, I’ll have a monthly storage bill. With your experience with helping military families, is there anything that you can do to help solve my problem? VA has certainly created a phenomenal problem for me. I’m of the opinion that VA should reimburse me for all my expenses associated with the issues that they have caused. Awaiting your response. Thank you kindly.

ONE: To pray for the 3 little ones who were Lost in the Cessna Plane Crash near the notorious Lost Dutchman Mine in the Mysterious Superstition Mountains.
TWO: Pray for the 46 million Americans now Living in Poverty, and help for these families next year by ending Chairman Obama’s Reign of Terror. Join me in a fight for America…Defeat Obama in 2012. And tell a Lib Atheist…MERRY CHRISTMAS…by keeping CHRIST in Christmas for America.
Then plan your Vacation getaway next year in 2012 for Arizona’s Statehood Centennial Celebration which will continue all year long until Obama is defeated in November. Take a stand against the anti American Deviants who were calling for a Boycott of Arizona while they were torching the American Flag on Federal Property in Phoenix on August 4 2010. Remember these were pro Illegal Alien Democrats who were SEIU Bussed out of Jerry Brown’s decadent California, who were video taped in the act of American Flag desecration on Federal Property along with committing Felony Arson.

My fiance (an Iraq war Veteran) and I are looking to have a very simple yet elegant wedding on horse property or a ranch. We would like to be able to decorate with simple twinkle lights, a few tables, and have our own live music play. We would love to have trees but would settle for mountain views. If it’s in the Phoenix or surrounding area, perfect. If it’s near Tuscon or in between Tucson and Phoenix that’s o.k. too. We don’t want to spend more than 00 or 00 to rent the farm or ranch. We are willing to get a liability insurance policy and use a party bus to cut down on traffic and parking. We would like to have our own food brought in as well as few bottles of wine and a keg. We are willing to get a licensed bartender if necessary.
Please. We can’t afford a fancy resort wedding. Our idea of a dream wedding is open space with minimal interference from a venue. I grew up on a farm in Iowa and I will treat your land and buildings as if they were my own.
Help us make our dream come true. The Farm at South Mountain and Schnepf Farms are way overpriced for our budget once you add food. We will have approximately 100 guests and would like to have the ceremony in the same place if possible in either March of 2011 or May of 2011. We are trying to keep the total spent on our wedding including ceremoney, reception, dress and suit, flowers, food and alcohol to approx 00. And that is pushing it.
Thank you very much for any help you can provide.

We notified the property management company 3 times stating that the glow bar is not working on the heater. When we first moved in and the gas company came out to turn on the gas that’s when we were told the glow bar was not working. This was in March of this year. On our first quarterly inspection in June we told the inspector. In October we told him again when he came out for the second inspection. Now a few weeks ago I sent an email maintenance request. They did call and leave a message stating that they called the gas company and they had no idea what a glow bar was. My husband called and left a message stating that all gas appliances have glow bars and that the person from Southwest Gas must have misunderstood. We have not had a call back and that was from Monday of this week. We have no heat in our home and now I can see a storm coming in and it’s a bit cold. Did I mention that I also have 4 children 5-10? What can I do? Technically I have only 1 written request and the other 2 were from the inspector and I have no receipt of those. I live in the Phoenix area in AZ. Can I call out a repair person and deduct the repair cost from next months rent?
Even if they don’t know what a glow bar is (I don’t either), I still told them that the glow bar in the heater was not working and it prevented us from heating the home. This is enough information for them to at least know that the problem is with whatever appliance heats the home, not water or clothes dryer.
I just looked and it is a furnace.

I note that AZ resident responders seem to highly call non residents wrong. Why is that? As if the answer isn’t obvious.

Ok, me and my fiancee are getting married next October (2010). We unfortunately live in Arizona (bleah!), and so does our immediate families (parents and siblings). We would have our wedding at my aunt’s property in upstate New York, but not all of our immediate family can afford to fly out there (what kind of wedding would it be without our parents and siblings?). We aren’t exactly rich, so we can’t afford to pay their way either. So we’re stuck with somewhere in Arizona within a days driving distance of Prescott (where we live in central AZ). We really want our wedding to be somewhere with really pretty autumn colors, but cacti and evergreens don’t change colors unless they die. In October this year we’re going for a road trip around AZ to look for somewhere where there’s fall colors. Any suggestions of where to try? We’ve heard the white mountains have the best fall foliage in the state, as well as Flagstaff and Oak Creek (but I have been to both oak creek and sedona, and never really seen anything too impressive with fall colors). If anyone has had an autumn wedding in Arizona, we’d like to know where to start looking for somewhere pretty?????????????? (Neither of us like the desert, so Phoenix or Tucson are just not options).

Do you think the LDS church does enough to work with concerned neighborhoods?
Non-Mormons, how would you feel about having an LDS temple built in your neighborhood?
How do LDS temples effect property values? (Since property values were sky rocketing until recently please don’t use raw numbers because they are deceiving, I am more interested in how property values change relative to comparables).
Would LDS temples bother you less if they were built in industrial or commercial areas?
